History of the Northern Territory Branch ALGWA

Whilst there was a great deal of interest and some gatherings of women in Local Government in the Northern Territory at an earlier stage, the first formally recognized local Branch was formed in 1996, when the affiliation fee was paid and Alderman Chris Tilley served as secretary.  She was one of two Delegates to the National Board, the other being Alderman Robyn Lesley.  While both Delegates attended the 1998 Annual General Meeting of the Board, there were no NT Delegates at the 2000 AGM, nor was an affiliation fee paid, so effectively the Branch had lapsed.

The Branch was revived in 2006, following Federal Government funding being received by the National Board, and a launch was held in August 2006.  By then, Delegates were reduced to one per Branch, and the first Delegate to the National Board was Alderman Helen Galton, followed by Alderman Jo Sangster in 2010, Pam Robinson OAM in 2012 and Lord Mayor Katrina Fong Lim from 2015-2017.

The Branch was incorporated in 2008.
